Wonder Woman 1984 Release in Theaters and HBO MAX at the same time?!

Is Direct to streaming site the new wave or the future of Hollywood?

The long-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot reprising her role as our favorite warrior princess (besides Xena aka Lucy Lawless) will be hitting HBO MAX for free, and also hitting what’s left of theaters on Dec 25th. It also will hit China a week prior to Christmas to the release here in the US.

Streaming Sites are the NEW Theatres!

Now fellow nerds and nerdettes, this to me is one of many signs that are to come for the end of theaters. Let’s dial it back a bit. If you recall the release of Mulan on Disney+ how much they gained...supposedly, which hasn’t been released to the public yet. But Bob Chapek has stated that he was “pleased with the results of Mulan as a premiere access title.” Chapek would then add, “we saw positive results to know that we had something in the premiere access strategy.” But lord knows what the actual numbers are at this point and one can assume since they have yet to release it then it can’t be that good. Films coming to streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu seems like the potential future to cut the middle man out. How unfortunate for theaters.

Wonder Woman 84 releasing on the same day as its HBO MAX release date during Christmas may seem like a good idea but let’s keep it a B, how many individuals are going to go out to theaters during this time, during a pandemic, on a holiday might I add, and go to the theaters to watch it when they can sit in the comfort of their own home with family sipping that good nog? Not many people. Especially when China is gonna get it a week prior to the US which I assume is some sort of marketing ploy. SPOILER! I can see people pirating this movie already! Not sure if that was a good idea Warner Media.
