Critical Hits: "Is it possible to get back into Yu-Gi-Oh!?"

NEW Episode of Critical Hits!

In this episode of Critical Hits, your host, B-Chan, goes over some quick insight and a way to get back into the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game for old fans and new fans!

Rose Deck List

Main Deck

Blue Rose Dragon x 2: When this card is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, you can select and special summon one plant monster or black rose dragon from the graveyard.

Botanical Lion x 2: A monster with the potential to get stronger with more plant monsters on your side of the field.

Chirubime, Princess of Autumn Leaves x 1: So long as Chirubime is on the field, it is the only plant card that can be targeted for attacks. This card has a secondary effect when it is destroyed.

Gigaplant x 1: Gigaplant is a Gemini Monster, meaning that it must be summoned twice before you can use its effect. There are ways to do this in one turn, and if you do manage to summon Gigaplant twice, the rewards can be a game changer for you.

Koa’Ki Meiru Gravirose x 1: Once per turn during your standby phase, you can send one level three or lower monster from your deck to the graveyard. Cards like Rose Lover are level 1.

Mystic Tomato x 2: When mystic tomato is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, you can choose one dark type monster with 1500 attack or less from your deck and summon it. There are several key cards that fit the bill for this special summon.

Red Rose Dragon x 2: Red Rose Dragon is a tuner monster that has two abilities if it is used for a synchro summon.

Revival Rose x 1: If a level 5 or higher monster is destroyed while Revival Rose is in the graveyard, you can special summon this card.

Rose Archer x 2: If you control a plant monster when your opponent activates a trap card, you can send Rose Archer from your hand to the graveyard to negate and destroy that card. This is an example of a hand trap.

Rose Lover x 2: While this card is in the graveyard, you can banish it from play to special summon one plant monster from your hand.

Rose Paladin x 2: If you discard Rose Paladin from your hand, you can add one level 8 plant monster to your hand. Rose Paladin also has a second effect if it manages to destroy a monster in battle.

Rose Tentacles x 1: If your opponent controls plant type monsters, Rose Tentacles can attack each one. There is a card in this deck that if used with Rose Tentacles, can give you unlimited attacks in one turn but be careful because Rose Tentacles is the only card in this deck unable to be special summoned. Can you find the secret to this “infinite attack”?

Spore x 2: If this card is in the graveyard, you can banish another plant monster to special summon spore from the grave. The banished plant monster’s level is then added to Spore, which could make synchro summoning difficult with it, but it is ideal for link summoning.

Twilight Rose Knight x 2: If you normal summon this card while you control a level 4 or lower plant type monster, you can summon that monster as well. Keep in mind that Twilight Rose Knight is level 3, and Black rose Dragon is a level 7 synchro monster.

Tytannial, Princess of Camellias x 1: If a card or effect targets another card on the field, you can tribute one face up plant monster to negate the activation and destroy that card.

White Rose Dragon x 2: If you control a plant or dragon tuner monster, special summon this card from your hand. White Rose Dragon has a secondary effect if it is used for a synchro summon.

World Carrotweight Champion x 2: While this card is in the graveyard, you can discard one plant monster to special summon it, but only once per turn.

Black Garden x 2: Whenever a monster is summoned, that monster’s attack is cut in half and the other player gets a rose token summoned to their side of the field in attack mode.

Terraforming x 1: Allows you to search your deck for a field card.

The World Tree x 2: A card with three effects you can use during your turn provided you have enough counters collected to pay the cost.

Thorn of Malice x 1: Thorn of Malice can be equipped to a plant monster or Black Rose Dragon, increasing the attack points by 800 points, but there are two other unique abilities with this card.

Blooming of the Darkest Rose x 1: Summons rose tokens equal to the number of field spells you control on the field or in the graveyard. Blooming of the Darkest Rose has a secondary effect in the graveyard.

Ivy Shackles x 2: Turns all your opponents’ monster into plants, but only on your turn.

Pollinosis x 3: Tribute one plant monster in order to negate one card activation and destroy said card. This can be used to negate summoning as well

Extra Deck:

Black Rose Dragon x 2: When Black Rose Dragon is summoned from the extra deck, you can choose to have it self-destruct and destroy all other cards on the field. Black Rose Dragon also has a secondary ability perfect for attacking your opponent when they are on the defense but be careful because it can backfire!

Black Rose Moonlight Dragon x 2: When Black Rose Moonlight Dragon is summoned, select one level 5 or higher special summoned monster your opponent controls, send it back to their hand. This ability also triggers once per turn if your opponent special summons a level 5 or higher monster. This includes fusion summons, XYZ summons, and Synchro Summons.

Garden Rose Maiden x 2: When Garden Rose Maiden is special summoned, you can add one Black Garden from your deck or graveyard to the hand. Garden Rose Maiden has a secondary effect in the graveyard.

Queen of Thorns x 2: If either player normal summons a non-plant type monster, they lose 1000 life points.

Crossrose Dragon x 2: Tribute Crossrose Dragon with a plant monster to special summon one synchro plant or rose dragon from the extra deck. Crossrose Dragon also has a secondary effect in the graveyard.

Extra/Side cards

Wall of Thorns: If a plant monster you control is attacked, activate this card to destroy all face up monsters your opponent controls.

Rose Bell of Revelation: On the first turn, search your deck for a plant monster with 2400 attack or more. On the second turn, banish Rose Bell of Revelation to special summon one plant monster with 2400 attack or more from your hand.

Fragrance Storm: Destroy one plant monster to draw a card, if you draw a plant monster draw a second card. Note that you do not have to destroy a plant monster on your side of the field to activate this.

Talaya, Princess of Cherry Blossoms: Gains 100 attack for each plant monster you control and protects them from card effects.

Copy Plant: Select one plant monster on the field and copy its level.

Dark Verger: If you normal summon a plant tuner monster while this card is in the graveyard, you can special summon Dark Verger on the field in face up attack.

Lonefire Blossom: Sacrifice a plant monster to special summon a plant from your deck.

Lord Poison: When destroyed by battle, special summon one plant monster from your deck.

Seed of Deception: A quick play spell that allows you to summon a level 2 or lower plant monster from your hand.

Strengths

  • Many of the cards can work well together to an extent.

  • It is rare to be short on monsters.

  • Due to its versatility, The Rose deck can handle most situations.

  • It is not uncommon to be able to link or synchro summon on your first turn.

  • Black Garden can be an exceedingly difficult card for your opponent to overcome. Also, your stronger plant monsters also have high defense, so play them face down so when they are turned face up, their attack points are unaffected.

Weaknesses

  • DO NOT play Black Garden if your opponent already has a strong monster on the field, that will only make defeating it much more difficult.

  • There will be times when you really need a plant monster, but it can be hard to draw.

  • If your opponent can prevent monsters from reaching the graveyard, and there are several ways to do this, that will take away a good chunk of your summoning options.

  • While this deck can counter, it may not last again a deck with better counter strategies.

  • If your opponent has a way to change your plant monsters into a different type on the field, that spells bad news for this deck.
